The possibility of a stranded oil tanker leaking 1.3 million barrels of oil into the Southern Caribbean is raising international alarm. Once again, we are reminded of the precarious situation our oceans face as offshore drilling and oil shipping continues. The fragile coral ecosystems of the Southern Caribbean are particularly susceptible to pollution and have already been affected by several oil spills this year. Trinidadians & Tobagonians as well as Venezuelans who rely on healthy waters are directly impacted by these crises.
