"The Sixth Mass Extinction" by Hannah Jones hannahjonesart, Ocean Awareness Contest award recipient (2017) and one of our Alumni Judges in Art. Statement: "All the 51 species forming the skull in my piece died off at least in part because of humans. Some, like the passenger pigeon and Stellar’s sea cow were over-hunted, while others like the Carolina parakeet went extinct because of habitat destruction. A large number of the animals illustrated lived on isolated land masses like New Zealand or Hawaii. When humans colonized these areas they frequently introduced invasive species which wiped out native wildlife." . . . #watercolor #gelpen #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #extinction #earthday2020 #protectwhatyoulove #skull #art #youngartist #illustration #sciart #natura #animals
