In her painting "Knitting the Future," Neha Patel (17, New Jersey) was inspired by a story about volunteers who knit sweaters to help little penguins that were impacted by an oil spill off of Australia's Phillip Island. These sweaters prevented penguins from preening and swallowing toxins before they could be cleaned and returned to the wild. .
