The Mets faced off against the Atlanta Braves at what was then Shea Stadium on Sept. 21, 2001. It was the the first major sporting event in the New York City area since the World Trade Center terrorist attacks, and Mike Piazza made sports history when he hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as New York went on to win the game bringing joy and pride to a city that was still reeling from an unimaginable tragedy.
Andrew Siff relieved the moment with former Mets players and the FDNY.
