Cempasúchil is an animated short film from Utopai Studios, written and directed by Melanie Nox. After her grandmother's death, Lucía returns to her family's old home and discovers her spirit trapped between the worlds of the living and the dead. Guided by memories and dreams, she must help her grandmother cross over while confronting her own grief.
Inspired by Melanie's personal experience of loss and her connection to Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), the film brings together Mexican surrealism, a stop-motion-inspired aesthetic and a story of remembrance.
