Update as of 18 April: Major Incident Now Downgraded to Critical Incident The landfill fire has been downgraded from a Major Incident to a Critical Incident, now managed by the Cayman Islands Fire Service on scene. ✅ Residents may move freely ✅ Schools reopen as normal on Monday ✅ Three areas of concern on the west side are being actively monitored The Department of Public Health and Department of Environmental Health continue to support neighbouring communities. Those with respiratory conditions are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exposure if smoke is visible.
