Homemade masks are not medical devices. They cannot stop the spread of virus sized particles like COVID-19 (far smaller than the size of fabric stitching) because the fabrics are not the same as those used medical masks. They can stop some of the spread of droplet sized particles (think spit). Given the limitations of homemade masks, they can only work in combination with social distancing and frquent hand washing.
