Government revenues (earnings) minus expenses (spending on the public) can sometimes result in a surplus (extra money at the end of the year). What does this mean?

A surplus can be essential for government operations and making sure the country can look after itself. In Cayman it allows us to pay back our debts and makes sure that we can sustain the economy in the event of emergencies such as hurricanes. At present, we have enough surplus budgeted to make sure we can look after our people for at least 90 days after a national emergency. We believe that by preparing for our very worst days we can ensure that Cayman experiences the best days to come.
