This jump round was focused on riding my rhythm (my quality canter) than off my eye. At this height, which is a bit more forgiving for Swatch, I want to force myself not to search out a take off spot, but rather, create the right canter and maintain it throughout. If my position is correct (secure lower leg, following hand, upper body over my leg) then the distance becomes almost irrelevant. In fact, riding into that deep spot from the correct canter becomes a fun fence than something to be scared of. The longer distance is still safe because I was with him and a good balance.
.
Practice, and more practice, I can then take that good canter and begin to adjust my line later to find a better distance when his scope begins to max. But, I can’t do the latter until I strengthen my canter and my position. Getting these courses where I just keep the forward, “same”, uphill stride is banked in both our confidences so we can bump up the next time.
