My 7yo OTTB (for sale) attended his first schooling show this weekend at bouckaertfarm . My goal was to give him as much exposure to the sounds and sights and save in his history to bank on the next show. . On Friday, I ponied him off Swatch to give him a solid buddy to lean on. It was a lot of stimulus so having Swatch right there was what he needed to know it was okay. I got on him for a quick ride, which by then was after most riders were done for the day. He was nervous riding alone and away from his buddies, but good to go in the line I asked him. . On Saturday he was quite good. Back in the warmup, the other horses were comforting so he gave me about 75-80% of the work we can do at home which to me was great for his first time out. Traveling down to the dressage ring and waiting a few minutes dropped him down 50% so we may have walked through our halts and some jigging in the transitions, but I consider it a good opportunity for him and a starting point that will improve. .
