I feel like I’ve been eventing a long time, at least long enough to see several popular young super stars come in and out of the sport. . At 17, I remember the handful of my peers who seemed to have all the things I wanted, I can name them. The nicest horses, all the lessons they wanted, showing all the time. . They eventually drifted out, then at 25 there was a new group of enviable riders. . They eventually drifted out to. . I think there’s a lot of burnout, horse break (your heart), you fall off twice in a row, sometimes you get eliminated at Novice even after you rode at Intermediate on your last horse. . Maybe I didn’t quit because I was never so fantastic, that the bad things were only a tiny notch lower than where I was so it didn’t feel like such a huge devastation, or maybe some childhood trauma that kept me pursuing the sport. .
