If a place only works for people who are fully alert and fully able at all times, with zero margin for error, then it’s simply inhospitable to exist in. And not just inhospitable to “pedestrians” in the abstract, but to everyone. We are all pedestrians at the start and end of every trip we take. If we make a world safe enough for kids, it also becomes safe enough to be distracted sometimes, and safe enough for people like my neighbor Ned. #pedestriansafety #universaldesign #walkablecity #walkableneighborhood
