Some of our butterflies have also chosen to tuck in and enjoy their day off this Labor Day! From caterpillar to butterfly, this incredible transformation happens through a process called metamorphosis. Caterpillars are the second stage of metamorphosis and eat constantly to build strength and grow until they’re ready to form their chrysalis. After finding a safe spot to hang, they shed their skin to form a hard chrysalis, as seen in this video! Inside this protective shell, their bodies break down and rebuild into beautiful adult butterflies, ready to take flight when they emerge. Take some time this Labor Day to relax and “glow up” just like our caterpillars! If you’re looking for a fun place to spend your day off, Butterfly Pavilion will be open during our regular hours for you to visit!
