In honor of the 1989-90 Elite Eight team’s 25th anniversary, we continue to look at moments in LMU Hoops’ history, this one on this date, Jan. 23, 1988. In the Lions’ most successful season in history, they averaged 110 ppg, going over 100 points 13 times in 17 games against WCC foes. However, on this date the Lions had the lowest point total in WCC play with an 85-72 win at Gonzaga. The Lions scored just 29 points at the half and trailed by three. Thanks to 56 second half points, including a game-high 24 from Corey Gaines (pictured), the Lions would extend its winning streak to 11 games. They would go on to win a program-best 25 straight games on their way to the second round of the NCAA tournament. #LMULions #WCCHoops #ILoveLMU
