Chronic UTIs can cause suffering so severe that experts have likened the quality of patients’ lives to end-stage cancer care. Yet many patients are not receiving the treatment they need. Around half of all women will get at least one urinary tract infection in their lifetime, according to the latest estimates. For most, the illness goes away with routine antibiotics.
