Lionel Messi has played his final international game for Argentina. Messi scored a goal and notched a pair of assists for a 3-0 victory in a friendly against Benin after announcing his international retirement in August. At the end of the emotional match, Messi addressed the crowd with a nearly 10-minute long speech where he spoke of his love of playing for Argentina but noting that "the time has come" for him to step away. It was also the first game for Messi since the death of his father. After making his debut in 2005, Messi rose to become one of football's all-time greats, winning a World Cup and two Copa America titles for the national team while scoring 126 goals to be the team's all-time top scorer. While Messi will no longer appear for Argentina, his career will continue at the club level with Inter Miami in the MLS, where he has a contract through to the end of the 2028 season. #LionelMessi #Argentina #Football #Channel4News
