The US House of Representatives has passed a war powers resolution calling for an end to the war in Iran, in a rare moment of Republican pushback on President Donald Trump. Four Republicans joined Democrats to pass the bill by a vote of 215 to 208 in Washington, DC on Wednesday. The War Powers Resolution is a federal law intended to check a president's power to commit the country to a conflict without the consent of Congress. While it is a sign of waning support for Trump's military action on Iran, it's unlikely the bill will become law as it must first pass through the Senate and could also face a presidential veto if it passes through both levels of Congress. Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who was recently defeated by a Trump-backed opponent in primaries, said on social media it was a message to "end this war." Trump did not seek congressional approval for the war, initially labelling it as a "short-term" mission. #Iran #WarPowers #DonaldTrump #US #Channel4News
