Is there a 'Christian genocide' in Nigeria? We travelled to central Nigeria to investigate claims that Christians are being targeted in deadly attacks. In one community, described as a “village of widows”, almost every woman had lost her husband. Many blamed armed Fulani fighters — from a predominantly Muslim ethnic group — and said they were targeted because of their faith. Others say the violence is also driven by land and resources. The Nigerian president visited the region last week and vowed to stop the killings. His government has previously denied that the violence is religiously motivated.
