A set of handprints discovered on cave walls in Indonesia are believed to be the oldest examples of rock art ever found. Researchers studied mineral crusts on the tan-coloured prints and determined them to be at least 67,800 years old. Uncovered on the island of Sulawesi, the art was likely made by blowing pigment over hands placed on the cave walls. Experts are not certain whether the prints were made by modern humans or an ancient human group called Denisovans, but it suggests the island was home to a flourishing artistic culture. The findings were published in the journal Nature. #Indonesia #CaveArt #History #Channel4News
