Grateful for the reminder that storms don’t last forever 🇯🇲 Jamaicans have always said “welcome home” whenever I come back. This time, it felt different hearing it 🥹 Honestly, I don’t think I have the words for what it felt like going through Hurricane Melissa last October. We went from being on vacation to sheltering in the resort’s buffet while the staff stayed around the clock to make sure we were safe, fed and taken care of. As scary as it was, I knew I would eventually get to go home to my family, my home and the life that was still there waiting for me untouched. I couldn’t stop thinking about the people who didn’t have that same luxury. People who lost their lives, homes, livelihoods and so much of what they knew and had to stay and rebuild. I never really went back through the photos and videos from that time. I was honestly traumatized by the experience and just wasn’t ready to revisit it.
