One of the thing I love about being a nurse is that there are so many specialties that you can choose from. In the acute care setting alone, there’s ICU, labor & delivery, NICU, OR, etc! As an ICU nurse myself, one of the best advice that I can give to new grad nurses or student nurses that want to specialize in critical care is to be a SPONGE 🧽. What I mean by that is to always be willing to learn and absorb new things every single day. There’s always something new to learn, especially in the ICU. Never be afraid to speak up and ask questions when you don’t know how to do something - your patient’s safety is always your #1 priority.
