Called Varenicline, the daily pill is designed to help people give up smoking. It will be given to tens of thousands of people for free on the NHS in England. It works by tackling nicotine cravings whilst also combatting withdrawal symptoms. NHS England say if the pill is used alongside behavioural support, it can help about one in four people stop smoking for at least six months. One in eight UK adults are smokers and 400,000 hospital admissions in England attributed to smoking in 2022-23. NHS England hopes the pill will be a ‘game-changer’, saving lives and millions of pounds for the NHS. #smoking #lifeandstyle #news
