The X Factor ran for 15 seasons, starting in 2004 and ending in 2018. Thousands of contestants auditioned across the country to try and make it as the UK’s next biggest singing sensation. Some of the biggest successes from the show include Little Mix, Rylan and One Direction - of whom former band member, Liam Payne, recently died after falling off a balcony in Argentina. After the programme finished there were claims of racism during the show - an X Factor spokesperson said they were “very concerned” to hear about this and they reached out to the contestant involved to discuss “the important issues […] raised”. On the duty of care that participants received, Fremantle Television, which produced the show, said participants were provided with a choice of independent legal advisors, as well as a dedicated welfare officer and aftercare support.
