Highly irregular 🧐 This NASAHubble image features an irregular galaxy—meaning that it's not a spiral (like our Milky Way) or an ellipse. Instead, this galaxy has a distinct bar in the center, surrounded by a haze of stars. Known officially as NGC 7292, this galaxy lies 44 million light-years from Earth, and can be seen in the constellation Pegasus. NGC 7292 is particularly interesting to astronomers because it was the site of a massive supernova, or stellar explosion, first observed nearly 60 years ago. Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA, C.
