The Government says the "Farm Tax" will make the system fairer and mainly target the wealthiest estates. Farmers argue that land-rich but cash-poor families could still be forced to sell parts of working farms to pay the bill. Until recently, qualifying farms could often be passed down with 100% inheritance-tax relief. But new rules introduced in April 2026 limit that full relief to the first £2.5 million of qualifying agricultural and business assets. Anything above that receives 50% relief, creating an effective inheritance-tax rate of up to 20%. So who is really affected - and could the policy threaten the future of Britain’s family farms? @jamesmmcalpine is PM for the day - would you vote for him? #Britishfarming #ukpolitics #pmforaday
