Just as landlords threatened to shut their pubs and go on strike amid business rate fury, the UK government is set to make a major U-turn. Ministers are said to be building a rescue package, as the hospitality industry is crippled under the heavy weight of financial pressures. Covid-era business rate relief is set to end in April this year and business properties have also been revalued to reflect the current property market. Some Labour MPs have been banned by angry landlords but Keir Starmer hinted that pubs MAY be allowed to stay open for longer, to help with additional costs. This means landlord bills may not rocket from April, as initially anticipated following the November budget announcement. #pubs #landlords #labour
