"Very honoured" 🧡 Pontardawe singer Mary Hopkin is the recipient of this year's Welsh Music Inspiration Award. Owen Money was delighted to announce the news as he spoke to her daughter Jessica Lee Morgan. Hopkin came to fame after appearing on Opportunity Knocks and became one of the first artists signed to The Beatles' label. Her debut single was a UK Number 1, selling 8 million copies worldwide. She was runner up at Eurovision 1970. Alongside releasing her own material, she contributed backing vocals to several records in the '70s including David Bowie's Low. She's frequently collaborated with her daughter Jessica, who will collect the award on Mary's behalf. The award is given each year at the Welsh Music Prize ceremony to honour someone's legacy and influence on Welsh music. #RadioWales #WelshMusic #MaryHopkin #pontardawe #Wales
