It has been more than 25 years since the controversial £200m Cardiff Bay Barrage officially opened. It was one of the biggest construction projects in Europe in the 1990s and has since been transformed into a major waterfront destination. Completed in 2001, the project turned tidal mudflats at the mouth of the rivers Taff and Ely into a 200‑hectare freshwater lake, creating what is now known as Cardiff Bay. BBC Wales's Pete Shuttleworth took a high-speed boat tour around the barrage, which separates the freshwater lake from the Bristol Channel. #BBCNews #CardiffBay #Cymru #Wales
