Coming in with another #FarmFactFriday for #JuneDairyMonth all about cow comfort! 🐮 Summer is here, which means it’s getting pretty toasty in the south 🥵 And what do we like to do when we’re hot? COOL OFF! With shade, water, fans, AC ❄️ And just like humans - dairy cows have a temperature preference and it’s not the middle of the Florida heat or during a blizzard in Wisconsin 🥶 So to help our bovine beauties out, a lot of farms in the US keep dairy cows in free stall barns! These barns have individual stalls in them and are then filled with different materials to make more comfortable (sand is used at my Ruben’s family dairy!) and provide a place for the ladies to chill or sleep 😴 Along with that‼️ 🚿 There are fans, sprinklers and shade to bring down the temperature when it gets too hot (and then also a building to protect from other bad weather) 🌽 Cows have 24/7 access to fresh feed and water 🐄 Friends to socialize with 🧬 We can keep a better eye on them to monitor healt...
