As wildfires ravage Indonesia's West Kalimantan province, rangers battle smoke and burning thickets to rescue the area's endangered orangutan population. They rescued a male orangutan, named Wak, from a high-risk area in Ketapang, where previous El Nino-driven forest fires have fragmented the orangutan population, prompting 60 to be relocated to safer grounds. Indonesia's Forestry Ministry data showed that 265,552 acres (107,465 hectares) of land were hit by fires from January to June 2026, a 110% increase compared with the same period in 2023. #indonesia🇮🇩 #orangutan #wildfire
