Sony Interactive Entertainment has ordered modder Speclizer to cancel a fan-made multiplayer mod for The Last of Us Part II, just weeks before its planned release. Speclizer had been building the PC mod since January, sharing a gameplay trailer back in June that showed a working matchmaking system and custom loadouts. The modder announced the cease-and-desist on social media, saying they were asked not to release the project and plan to move on to an original game instead. It's a sore spot for fans since Naughty Dog canceled its own official multiplayer project set in the same universe back in 2023, reportedly after internal reluctance to become a live-service support studio. That leaves PC players without any multiplayer option in The Last of Us universe, official or fan-made, at least for now. It also follows a broader pattern of publishers enforcing IP rights against fan projects, similar to past shutdowns involving Ocarina of Time and World of Warcraft fan remakes. #gaming #playsta...
