Meccha Chameleon has become 2026's best-selling game on Steam by copies sold, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics. The hide-and-seek style game was built in just two months by two developers, and it's already earned an estimated $71.3 million despite launching at just $6. It outsold every other game released this year, including major titles like EA Sports FC 26 and Resident Evil Requiem, all without any real marketing budget. The game actually started as a prototype inside Fortnite's UEFN before the developers turned it into its own standalone release. It went viral almost instantly, driven largely by TikTok clips of players hiding in plain sight by painting themselves into their surroundings. It's become the poster child for a new wave of ultra-low-budget "friendslop" games proving that scale and marketing spend aren't what make a hit anymore. #mecchachameleon #gaming #indiegame #steamgame #pcgaming
