Located in southern Siberia, Russia, Lake Baikal is the world’s oldest freshwater lake at around 25 million years old and the deepest at about 5,387 feet. It holds roughly 20% of the planet’s unfrozen surface freshwater and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When frozen, shifting ice, cracking pressure, and trapped air bubbles can create eerie, otherworldly sounds as temperatures and ice layers constantly change. 🎥 @elibakunova / YouTube @elifromrussia #russia #lakebaikal #nature #science
