Highguard game director Chad Grenier says the game launched with limited features because the studio ran out of “time and money.” The multiplayer shooter released with what some players described as a “skeleton” feature set, with core systems like progression and a skill tree only arriving later. Grenier explained that the team at Wildlight Entertainment had little choice but to launch when it did and hope players would stick around post-release. However, player numbers quickly dropped, making it difficult to support the game financially. The studio has now confirmed the game will shut down on March 12, just a month after release. Reports have also claimed that Tencent had been backing the project but allegedly pulled funding after the game’s player count declined. #highguard #gaming #indiegame
