Salam Turki, a native of #Lebanon and assistant #professor of #mathematics, remembers her relatives questioning why she – a woman – would go into this field instead of studying Arabic or English. And she’s used to attending #math conferences overwhelmingly attended by white male #mathematicians. But Turki believes women and people of color will thrive in #STEM fields, if only they’re given the #opportunity. That’s why she created one such opportunity for students at Nathanael Greene Middle School.
