#FlashbackFriday: Are you ready for some football (history)? • Believe it or not, #Providence once had its own professional #football 🏉team. The Providence Steam Roller was established by a writer and an editor from the provjournal #sports section as an independent team in 1916. • From 1925-31, they played in the #NFL and won the #championship in 1928 against the #GreenBay packers. • The team was hit hard by the Great Depression and was no more by 1933, but versions of it were revived as independent and semi-pro in the ‘40s and ‘60s. • You can learn and see a lot more of Providence’s football heritage in an exhibit on display at riclibrary until Oct. 31.
