After an eight-year legal fight, a Spanish court has ordered the country’s treasury to return nearly $65 million to singer Shakira, ruling the funds were wrongly collected. Spain’s high court cleared the Colombian pop star of tax fraud allegations and directed authorities to reimburse the money with interest. In its decision, the court found that prosecutors failed to prove Shakira spent the required 183 days in Spain in 2011 to qualify as a tax resident subject to personal income taxes. Instead, the court determined she was in the country for only 163 days during that tax year. #shakira #taxfraud #spain
