Rex Heuermann’s family was in the courtroom when he pleaded guilty to murdering seven women and to intentionally causing the death of another victim, Karen Vergata. Heuermann was first identified as a suspect in the high-profile Gilgo Beach serial killings in July 2023 and was subsequently charged with the murders of seven women. An architect and father, Heuermann initially entered a not guilty plea on all charges and was held without bail at the Riverhead Correctional Facility in Suffolk County. In April 2026, however, he changed his plea to guilty on seven counts of murder.
