“I abruptly left San Diego after my undergraduate degree to care for my mom after her cancer diagnosis. Returning for medical school was a difficult transition as I was in the process of grieving and was surrounded by constant reminders of her illness. I am so grateful I found a strong community at UCSDSchoolofMedicine in addition to my family and partner that supported me through this transition. I was fortunate to have served as the hematology/oncology coordinator at the UC San Diego student-run free clinic. We were able to provide care to cancer patients with limited access to healthcare. These experiences have motivated me to serve as a patient advocate to increase access to this vulnerable demographic. During my undergraduate degree, I was flyering for a student organization where I met my fiancé! We both entered medicine and are very happy to have couples match together for residency.
