What in the Transformers is going on here?! That metal cage you see? It’s called an Ilizarov fixator, and believe it or not, it helps with growing bone, not breaking it. It’s used when someone’s bone didn’t heal properly, or they’re missing a section of bone entirely. Through a process called distraction osteogenesis, the fixator slowly pulls the bone apart so new bone can grow in between. Wild, right? It’s uncomfortable. It’s time-consuming. But for many, it’s the difference between amputation and getting their life back. Modern medicine isn’t always pretty — but it works. 📷: milliemclay Q: Could you wear one for 6–12 months if it meant saving your leg? #IlizarovFixator #OrthopedicSurgery #BoneHealing #MedicalReels #Doctor #HealthEducation #FamilyMedicine #Whizdoc
