Ever wondered why you had diarrhea just before and during your periods?
This is known as PERIOD POOP.
People who get periods have probably noticed that their bowel movements may differ from their “normal” during a period or menstrual cycle.
You might experience diarrhea, constipation, pain during poop, smelly poop, or any other changes to your bowel movements during your period.
Your hormones, estrogen, progesterone, and prostaglandins, tend to fluctuate during and around your menstrual cycle.
Prostaglandins in particular cause
1. contractions of the uterus causing cramps and
2. help you shed the excess tissue lining the uterus that you don’t need because you did not get pregnant.
Just like with the uterus, prostaglandins can also affect your gastrointestinal tract by causing your gut muscles to contract leading to the pain and bowel changes(including diarrhea) often associated with period poops.
