A randomized control study was done which showed that increased daily water intake can reduce the risk of recurrent cystitis(bladder infection/UTI) in premenopausal patience, with low fluid intake, who are at higher risk of UTIs. Increasing daily food intake, amongst some other routine lifestyle recommendations have been recommended for a long time, but not proven until recently. This was the first study to show a reduction in the risk of recurrent UTIs in premenopausal patients. Also it was noted that there was no additional risk of adverse effects during the study. However, it should be known that there should be caution when making recommendations to increase fluid intake/hydration because some individuals will not be eligible for this intervention.
