The human body can’t survive without the essential mineral iron. For starters, it’s an important component of hemoglobin, the protein that carries the oxygen throughout your body as a part of red blood cells (RBC). Without enough iron, you may feel dizzy, weak and can even become anemic. Menstruating women who don’t consume iron-rich foods are at a high risk of iron deficiency. Iron requirements vary by age and gender. A deficiency can occur if your intake is too low to replace the amount you lose daily. Different ways exist to meet your daily iron requirements without eating the same foods all the time, with the picture above showing some examples of iron rich foods. Remember that if you don’t eat meat or fish, or are strictly on a plant based diet, you can boost iron absorption by including a source of vitamin C when eating plant sources of iron. . . . . . . #wellness #health #legumes #shellfish #liver #diet #fish #womenshealth #medicine #familymedicine #melanin #health #li...
