On August 8th 2021, Alex Hales was facing Oval Invincibles bowler Reece Topley. Topley bowls the unthinkable, hitting Hales where it hurts most. To some, it was a laughing matter, but to others they could resonate with the pain Hales felt. Ebony Rainford-Brent, who was live on air when this incident took place, exclaimed, “That has nailed him in the gooly-wooly woolies” – this quote has now found itself used in many similar scenarios, and to this day, many cricket fans will remember where it originated; that dreaded day for Hales on August 8th 2021. #thehundred #alexhales #reecetopley
