On Christmas, the Fort Belvoir Christmas Bird Count took place at River Farm, the headquarters of the American Horticultural Society in Alexandria, VA. This long-standing tradition is part of the National Audubon Society’s annual bird count. The team reported 21 different species of birds on the property with a total count of 121 birds. The most common bird sighted was the American Robin (51), and the next common was the Cedar Waxwing (18). These counts are important for monitoring nesting patterns and recording annual bird populations.
