AHS and River Farm are closed today, February 20, in honor of President’s Day. Our staff will return to the office tomorrow! DID YOU KNOW? River Farm, AHS’s beloved headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, is part of George Washington’s original five farms. Washington introduced the Kentucky coffee tree to Virginia, and several Kentucky coffee tree specimens, descendants of Washington’s original trees, still reside at River Farm. The species was named for its native origin and because its seeds were once used as a coffee substitute. --- #RiverFarm #RiverFarmVA #AmericanHistory #GeorgeWashington #HistoricHomes #HistoricGardens #Horticulture #Gardening #PresidentsDay #FunFact #AHSgardening #AmericanHorticulturalSociety
