Early Photograph of the mansion house on Historic River Farm known then as Wellington, sometime before 1915. The original structure was started in 1790 by George Washington for his nephew but then completed in 1795 by his Secretary, Tobias Lear (pictured). Washington gave a lease of the property as a wedding present to Lear whose bride, Fanny Bassett (pictured), was Martha Washington’s niece and widow of George Washington’s nephew, George Augustine Washington.
