Time for a new What IS that THING! We look to what only can be described as something from the movie Beetlejuice; the Hydnellum peckii or Devil's Tooth is a fungus that “bleeds” from its spores and has teeth lined up along the bottom. Usually embedded with plant stems and debris, Devil’s Tooth has bright red liquid droplets when young which turn more pinkish as they mature. This creepy creature is found in North America and Europe and has recently been found in Iran and Korea. Fruit bodies of H. peckii have been likened to "Danish pastry slathered with strawberry jam" (we don’t see it) and though Hydnellum species, in general, are not known to be poisonous, they are not particularly edible due to their extremely bitter taste (someone actually tried this). Next time you toss up a healthy salad, you’ll leave out these creepy fungi because thanks to AHS, now YOU KNOW WHAT IS THAT THING! #fungi #mushrooms #mushroom #nature #mycology #fungus #fungiphotography #mushroomsofinstagram #nature...
