WHAT IS THAT THING?
In this week’s “What is that thing?” we look to an orchid that looks back in a cute but kind of creepy way. The Monkey Orchids (Dracula simia) translates to "little dragon monkey"-thrives at altitudes around 2,000 meters in their native Ecuador. It is easy to grow these cuties at home, but like many orchids, it’s important to use orchid-specific soil able to hold moisture but drain rapidly and provide adequate circulation and airflow. Also, the mix should be bark-forward to best replicate an orchid's origin environment. It is recommended, however, that you wear a bathrobe around the house with these little guys looking at you all the time. So, thanks to AHS, now you know what is that thing!
