14 years ago today, we released our 5th album: “Nothing is Sound.” It wasn’t the happy, clappy radio album that our record label might’ve wanted. Instead, it was a yearning, longing, album, echoing the words of the scriptures: “Meaningless. Meaningless. All is meaningless.” A friend of mine asked me recently, whether I regret our decision to push away from the mainstream. To make an album that attempted to wrestle with deeper things, rather than just playing the game and staying at the surface. My answer is this: “Nothing is Sound” was maybe the darkest season we’ve ever been through. And yet, I am so proud of those songs. And yes: I would absolutely do it again. The album still feels real to me. Feels like our lonely nation is lonelier than it was even back then… “Everyone dies Everyone loves a fight Nothing is sound Nothing is right side right Evening comes, when the sun goes down in red Nothing is cool When will all the fighting end?
